The Liberal Democrats’ candidate for the Bexley & Bromley constituency is Bromley councillor Tom Papworth.

Tom’s priorities are to stop Labour closing vital local hospital services, to help Brian Paddick cut crime by 20 per cent, and to make public transport in South East London safer, more reliable and better value for money.

Residents in Bromley are represented on the London Assembly by five Liberal Democrats who cover the whole of London: Dee Doocey, Sally Hamwee, Geoff Pope, Graham Tope and group leader Mike Tuffrey.

The Liberal Democrats’ London-wide “top-up” list for the 2008 London Assembly election consists of Mike Tuffrey, Dee Doocey, Caroline Pidgeon, Jeremy Ambache, Geoff Pope, Ben Abbotts, Stephen Knight, Shas Sheehan, Duncan Borrowman, Monica Whyte and Merlene Emerson.

Cllr David McBrideParliament

Cllr David McBride, the Liberal Demcrats’ parliamentary spokesman for Orpington, has lived in the Orpington for over 30 years and has been been a councillor in the constituency for nearly a decade. He is a senior teacher at a junior school in Bexley.

David is a keen follower of sport and is a member of Kent CCC and Team McLaren. He is a member of the National Trust and has recently won an assurance from the Council to keep the War Memorial in Orpington in its present location. He is determined to fight for Orpington, making sure the town gets a fair deal from the Labour Government and Conservative local council.

Cllr Alex FeakesCouncillor Alex Feakes is the Liberal Democrats’ parliamentary spokesman for Lewisham West & Penge, which incldues the Penge, Cator, Clock House and Crystal Palace areas of Bromley. Figures for this new parliamentary seat show that the Liberal Democrats are the challengers to Labour, with the Conservatives well behind in third.

At the Bromley & Chislehurst parliamentary by-election 18 months ago, Liberal Democrat candidate Ben Abbotts caused a sensation when he reduced the Conservative majority, in what was previously the Conservative’s 17th safest seat in the country, from over 13,000 to a wafer thin 633. Labour came a poor fourth behind UKIP.

Sarah Ludford is the Liberal Democrat Member of the European Parliament for the whole of London.

Local Council

The Liberal Democrat group on Bromley Council, led by David McBride, is the official opposition to the Conservatives.

The most recent test of public opinion was the Crystal Palace by-election, in which London Assembly candidate Tom Papworth increased the Liberal Democrat majority, with the Conservatives coming third.
