Croydon
London Assembly
Cllr Abigail Lock is the Liberal Democrats’ candidate for the Croydon & Sutton London Assembly constituency.
Abigail’s priorities include getting a fair deal for outer boroughs such as Croydon, alleviating poverty through the provision of affordable housing, and more and better public transport. She is campaigning to reduce anti-social behaviour through responsive Safer Neighbourhood teams, better education and employment programmes.
Residents in Croydon are represented on the London Assembly by five Liberal Democrats who cover the whole of London: Dee Doocey, Sally Hamwee, Geoff Pope, Graham Tope and group leader Mike Tuffrey.
The Liberal Democrats’ London-wide “top-up” list for the 2008 London Assembly election consists of Mike Tuffrey, Dee Doocey, Caroline Pidgeon, Jeremy Ambache, Geoff Pope, Ben Abbotts, Stephen Knight, Shas Sheehan, Duncan Borrowman, Monica Whyte and Merlene Emerson.
European Parliament
Sarah Ludford is the Liberal Democrat Member of the European Parliament for the whole of London. She has been in the forefront of efforts to tackle organised crime and terrorism through European cross-border law enforcement.
Sarah has been the party’s lead member in the European Parliament on anti-racism, on rights for EU-resident legal immigrants, and on internment of prisoners in Guantanamo Bay. She is active in the Parliament’s ‘intergroups’ on anti-racism & diversity and gay & lesbian rights.
Local Council
Liberal Democrats in Croydon have been campaigning to keep local Post Offices open (you can sign our petition against the closure programme on the party website), against the unfair and outdated council tax, and to deal with overcrowding on commuter trains to and from central London.
