Local Council
Merton Liberal Democrats have been campaigning to scrap the unfair council tax and replace it with a local tax based on people’s ability to pay, and to cut the basic rate of national income tax, paid for by penalising polluters. There was a huge response to their petition demanding a greater say for residents in planning.
Local campaigners have also been encouraging supermarkets in the area to help the environment by thinking twice before stocking excessively packaged goods. You can sign the national Scrap this pack! petition online to help stamp out excess packaging.
