London Assembly
Local councillor Stephen Knight is the Liberal Democrats’ candidate for the South West London Assembly seat that includes Richmond upon Thames. Labour came a distant third in the 2004 election - only Stephen Knight or the current Conservative Assembly Member can win here in May.

Richmond residents are represented on the London Assembly by five Liberal Democrats who cover the whole of London: Dee Doocey, Sally Hamwee, Geoff Pope, Graham Tope and group leader Mike Tuffrey.
The Liberal Democrats’ London-wide “top-up” list for the 2008 London Assembly election consists of Mike Tuffrey, Dee Doocey, Caroline Pidgeon, Jeremy Ambache, Geoff Pope, Ben Abbotts, Stephen Knight, Shas Sheehan, Duncan Borrowman, Monica Whyte and Merlene Emerson.
Parliament
Susan Kramer is the Member of Parliament for Richmond Park. She is the Liberal Democrats’ spokesperson on issues relating to families and Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office. She was educated locally at St Paul’s Girls’ School and worked in international finance and transport before becoming an MP.

Vincent Cable has been the MP for Twickenham since 1997. A former Chief Economist of Shell International, he is the Liberal Democrats’ Shadow Chancellor and Deputy Leader. He is also Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Victims of Crime.

Local Council
The local Liberal Democrats have run Richmond upon Thames Council since winning control from the Conservatives in the 2006 local elections. Cllr Serge Lourie is the Leader of the Council.
The Liberal Democrats have put the environment at the heart of decision making, are making the council more cost effective and are investing in local education. The council has the sixth highest satisfaction rating in the country and has just been named the capital’s greenest borough.
The council is made up of 36 Liberal Democrat councillors and 18 Conservatives. There are no Labour councillors.
