London Assembly
Local councillor Caroline Pidgeon is the Liberal Democrats’ candidate for the London Assembly seat of Lambeth & Southwark. Caroline stood here in 2004 and reduced Labour’s majority to less than 5,500. She needs only a 2.2% swing to win. The Conservatives came a distant third in 2004 and can’t win.
Caroline has been a Southwark councillor for 10 years. She is currently Southwark’s Executive Member for Children’s Services and Education. Caroline lives in Camberwell with her husband Paul.

Southwark residents are represented on the London Assembly by five Liberal Democrats who cover the whole of London: Dee Doocey, Sally Hamwee, Geoff Pope, Graham Tope and group leader Mike Tuffrey.
The Liberal Democrats’ London-wide “top-up” list for the 2008 London Assembly election consists of Mike Tuffrey, Dee Doocey, Caroline Pidgeon, Jeremy Ambache, Geoff Pope, Ben Abbotts, Stephen Knight, Shas Sheehan, Duncan Borrowman, Monica Whyte and Merlene Emerson.
Parliament
Simon Hughes has been the Member of Parliament for North South & Bermondsey since 1983. Following his election in Bermondsey by-election, Simon has been re-elected six times by his constituents.
Simon has lived in Southwark for 30 years and is currently Chair of Governors of St. James’ Primary School in Bermondsey. He has been President of the Liberal Democrats since 2004.

Local Council
Nick Stanton has been the Leader of Southwark Council since 2002. He heads a group of 27 Liberal Democrats working hard for residents across the borough. Labour have 29 councillors; the Conservatives have just six.
The most recent test of public opinion, the December 2007 by-election in Riverside ward, saw Anood Al-Samerai win for the Liberal Democrats. Labour came in second place, with the Conservatives a distant third.
