London Assembly
Cllr Abigail Lock is the Liberal Democrats’ candidate for the Croydon & Sutton London Assembly constituency.
Abigail’s priorities include getting a fair deal for outer boroughs such as Sutton, where she is a councillor. Abigail wants to see more and better public transport, and for poverty to be tackled through the provision of affordable housing. She is campaigning to reduce anti-social behaviour through responsive Safer Neighbourhood teams, better education and employment programmes.
Abigail and Brian are campaigning to have tram services extended to Sutton, to improve transport links and ease pressure on the borough’s roads. You can back the Tram It! campaign by signing their online petition.
Sutton residents are represented on the London Assembly by five Liberal Democrats who cover the whole of London: Dee Doocey, Sally Hamwee, Geoff Pope, Graham Tope and group leader Mike Tuffrey.
The Liberal Democrats’ London-wide “top-up” list for the 2008 London Assembly election consists of Mike Tuffrey, Dee Doocey, Caroline Pidgeon, Jeremy Ambache, Geoff Pope, Ben Abbotts, Stephen Knight, Shas Sheehan, Duncan Borrowman, Monica Whyte and Merlene Emerson.
Parliament
Paul Burstow is the Member of Parliament for Sutton and Cheam, which includes Belmont, Stoneleigh and Worcester Park. A Sutton councillorfor 16 years, Paul was first elected to Parliament in 1997. He was named London’s hardest working MP by the Evening Standard newspaper in 2005. The paper also gave Paul a five out of five star rating for his work as an MP.
He was born in St Helier Hospital and has been campaigning on its future and against plans to close Henderson Hospital in Sutton. He is also opposing the latest round of post office closures in the area.

Tom Brake has been the Member of Parliament for Carshalton and Wallington since 1997 having previously been a Sutton councillor. He is currently the Liberal Democrats’ Shadow Minister for Home Affairs.
Tom has been working with residents and local Liberal Democrats to save St Helier Hospital.
Tom has been campaigning for improved access to NHS dentists in the area. He and Paul Burstow have also been campaigning to save local back gardens from development.

Local Council
Liberal Democrat Sean Brennan is the Leader of Sutton Council. He heads a team of 31 Liberal Democrat councillors, including London Assembly candidate Abigail Lock and outgoing Assembly Member Graham Tope.
Liberal Democrat-run Sutton Council has been rated “excellent” by the Audit Commission, with the Government giving the council national beacon status for its work with the police and for its waste and recycling services. Lib Dem councillors are working to make the borough cleaner, greener and safer. Cllr Brennan and his team are investing in children and young people and improving housing.
The Conservatives are the official opposition; there are no Labour councillors in the borough.
