The Liberal Democrat group has been:

  • Proposing an extra £25 million to double facilities for recycling; demanding action on dumped free newspapers.
  • Lobbying Government to fund the new ’super sewer’; challenging Thames Water to fix its leaks.
  • Promoting renewable energy and eco design.
  • Winning a pledge from Oxford Street traders to make Christmas lights more sustainable.
  • Arranging a series of meetings bringing together Olympic organisers and the most deprived communities in London, to ensure they benefit from the Games.
  • Surveying all police stations in London to find that 50% failed to answer non-emergency phonecalls. The Met is now investigating.
  • Championing measures to improve the housing situation for Londoners, engaging with boroughs and London’s homeless organisations.
  • Continuing to pressurise the Met to deliver one police station victim focus desk in every borough.
  • Leading London Assembly Transport Committee proposals supporting the Cross River Tram but link it to Oxford Street, Holloway Road, the Emirates Stadium, Streatham, and New Cross, with full public consultation.
  • Launching a new Lib Dem policy at London University for students’ half fares on London transport, now adopted by Mayor Livingstone.
  • Tube platformForcing the Mayor to backtrack on his absurd statement that he won’t pay a penny for Metronet’s extra Tube work (estimated at £1.2 billion).
  • Pressing the Mayor to act on bus fare evasion running at over £30 million a year.
  • Proposing various bus improvements including express buses to Heathrow, Waterloo to St. Pancras, and in outer London.
  • Questioning the excessive expenditure of the Mayor on consultants and deals with overseas governments.
  • Putting the Mayor’s, Transport for London’s and the London Development Agency’s budgets under detailed scrutiny.
  • Calling on the Met not to allow foreign police officers to carry guns on London’s streets during the 2012 Olympics.
  • Campaigning to get London’s police forces to work together to reduce crime on overground rail.
  • Challenging the Mayor to protect London’s Safer Neighbourhood Teams from future budget cuts.
  • Criticising the Met’s use of controversial stop and search powers and pushed for better communication with London’s diverse communities.
  • Helping Londoners engage in the Met’s plans to open new police stations across the capital.
